DVD Preserves employs custom built equipment to convert your 8mm format films. This equipment involves a specially designed interface between a traditional 8mm projector and a high powered computer. The film is shown through a 5 inch custom crafted condenser lens and recorded with a digital camera. The film is converted in a frame by frame manner at 6 frames per second. The end result is a flicker free, ultra high quality conversion.
The process also includes an enlarged projector gate. This allows more of the video frame to be viewed than with an unmodifed projector. During other conversion processes, you can lose up to 20 percent of the video frame as the film is cropped to match the aspect ratio of your TV. We strive to provide as much of your film content as possible.
To protect your film, the projector bulb has been replaced with a low heat bulb. We can leave the projector sitting on a single frame for more than an hour with no burning of your film.
Of course, your film is cleaned and lubricated before conversion as a part of the service.
